I really look up to you :D Second, I see you got a copy of Rant, I love that book. At first it was utterly confusing and a bit senseless and the story seems to go nowhere but the story is something you might not be expecting :) And lastly, is Stardust a good read? I’m planning to buy it but I’m not that sure yet :) God bless :D

Thanks a lot, Iron-Knees! (And so sorry for the late response!) I appreciate it so much. :) I’ll keep in mind what you said about Rant! Stardust is a good read, I guess…it’s not my favorite Neil Gaiman book, but it’s up there in my top Victorian-themed fantasy/fairytale novels. God bless you, too!

They way you write a review is really- insightful. You don’t know this but I actually read all of your reviews in your wordpress blog. And that I’m actually jealous of you having read and acquired so many books. Hahaha. I’m one of your fans ^^

I’m really sorry for this late reply, I hope you’re still there! Thank you so much, appreciation of my fellow bookworms like you just keep me coming back to blog here (although, yeah, my updates have been seldom the past few weeks). And oh, my wordpress! What’s your account there? I only use it as a mirror site for my blogspot but I may as well connect with you there, too. :) *hugs*

(b) Hey ate Airiz :D Is it okay for me to add you on goodreads? ^^ thanks!

SURE (yay, and I have another little sister here haha!) Do add me!

(c) I miss your posts :((

I’m so sorry, I’ll make it a point to post more in the next few days. :((

Sure! Thank you! :) Here’s one from the Philippine Fashion Week, taken a couple of nights ago. Hope you don’t mind the semi-awkward pose. But… I’m a book blogger, so maybe it will be more appropriate if you just pick from my GPOY pool? The recent ones are posted here. Up to you. :)

I got it from Fully Booked, SM North EDSA. :) You can just email them  about it and they’ll find a copy for you and send it to the nearest FB branch to you. :)

(b) Hello, I hope you don’t mind but I tagged you in this post. If you have the time and if it’s not bothering you, I hope you can answer the questions I’ve made for you! :) Thank you.

Sure, I will! Thanks, it’s sorta sweet. :)

uhohohno said: I really liked Rant. A friend told me that she was disappointed with a lot of Palahniuk’s work after Fight Club, and that Rant was the most engaging of all his post-FC stuff. I really wouldn’t know because I’ve only read the two, but I want to see for myself. You seem to be a fan. Which of his other books would you recommend? I have Non-Fiction, Lullaby and Choke.

I’ve not read a lot of CP books, but so far—minus Rant—my favorite is Diary. :)

Thank you so much, guys! Your opinions helped me a bit on what to expect before cracking all these books open. I’ll share to you my views once I finish them! Again, thanks! Especially to those who understood how my offline life seems to devour so much of my time lately. I love you, guys! :)

skezcraper asked: First, I just wanna say that you are the most awesome person I’ve found here on Tumblr and I can’t stop back-reading your blog. I even have it bookmarked! Lol it’s really amazing that someone like you still exists and that you unselfishly share knowledge around here. Such an inspiration :> plus, you’re really pretty! Gosh, you can’t be any more perfect. Envy. Well, moving on to my question— how do you pronounce “Ancelstierre”?

THANK YOU, I really, really appreciate it! I’m so glad you guys still bother to drop by my ask box to say you like my blog…it inspires me to post more. Oh, and I’m perfectly imperfect! I’m just a Plain Jane! There are lots of really pretty people out there, but still—thank you. It’s not every day someone calls me pretty. :p

To answer your question: I pronounce it as An-sels-tee-yer…which I’m pretty sure is incorrect. Hugs and kisses for being an Old Kingdom trilogy fan, we are like members of a literary underground community, haha! I wish more people read it!

ghialiyabones asked: God!! i can’t believe i found another human being who loves neil gaiman and john green (i just started reading his books, though)!!!! AND, you doodle!! :D YOU’RE AWESOME!! i’m saving money for The Fault in Our Stars. is it a good read?

Believe it or not, there’s so many of us! :) THANK YOU, I’m glad many people are liking my doodles! I’m actually thinking of trying something other than these squiggly scribbles, do wish me luck in my other artistic endeavors! Oh, The Fault in Our Stars! a-bendable-light asked: Hey, I was wondering if you had any links that could be sources for your post about Red Riding Hood? I’m doing a project on how women’s role in fairy tales has changed through re-tellings and was thinking red riding hood would be a good one. But I’m having trouble finding stuff about it! Or if you have any suggestions that would be fantastic!

I can’t remember where I got everything, but I was able to bookmark the following. I think these will help you a lot:

Most of the books I have read and enjoyed have been reviewed by you and I found Haruki Murakami through this tumblr. I am doing a project on Haruki Murakami right now and I was wondering if I could maybe use your art for it. Of course, credit will be given. Thank you for your time!

Thanks! :) I don’t have a lot of art about Murakami’s works, but you may use them if you want. You’re welcome. :)

Lots of people are saying Neverwhere is the best Gaiman book for starters, but I’d say Stardust. :)

cocoaandbutter: Airiz! Hello. :) I was just going through your blogs and I just thought I’d pop in and say I seriously think you’re amazing! You’re such a good writer, too and every time I read a book that I heard about from your blog I want to talk to you all about it. Haha. I just finished reading the vladimir tod series and the sky is everywhere - loved the latter SO much. Lennie is so cool and funny. And I keep seeing Joe as a tall Darren Criss. Haha. Anyway, I hope you have a good weekend ahead of you. xx, Zee

Thank you, Zee! :) Oh, you can talk to me about any books we’ve both read, I’m all for bookworm-y fangirlism and discussion! I’ve been hearing a lot about the Vladirmir Todd series, what do you think about it? And ooh The Sky is Everywhere is good, yeah. Darren Criss? Now that you said it, dudette—CAN NOT UNTHINK! Haha. He’s perfect. :) I had a good weekend! I hope the same for you! *hugs*

oldfashionedvampirism asked: RANDOM QUESTION: Would you rather fly or become invisable? Would you rather be a jerk, or a creep?

Fly. Um, creep? :p

You've read so many great books so far. Which would you say is the one that impacted you the most? (and how/why?)

I’m sorry about not responding right away, but it’s really hard to answer this. There’s so many!

If I were to pick one in my earliest reads, though, I’d say Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. I see it as the masterpiece that sparked the ember of activism in me…and every time I reread it, I feel like I’m fanning the flames some more. This preface from the Gutenberg ebook edition pretty much sums up what I want to say:

So long as there shall exist, by virtue of law and custom, decrees of damnation pronounced by society, artificially creating hells amid the civilization of earth, and adding the element of human fate to divine destiny; so long as the three great problems of the century—the degradation of man through pauperism, the corruption of woman through hunger, the crippling of children through lack of light—are unsolved; so long as social asphyxia is possible in any part of the world;—in other words, and with a still wider significance, so long as ignorance and poverty exist on earth, books of the nature of Les Misérables cannot fail to be of use.

Oh, now I feel the need to reread it!

dreamergirly: Hello and good day to you =) I need advice, if you may. Wanted to ask how do you think, should I read Haruki Murakami? I tried “Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World” and remember giving up on it ‘cause it seemed like such a mess of stuff about nothing. I still have it and my mom recently bought “1Q84”… I just have such a long list of books to read that I can’t decide which one to read first. So I decided to ask you, since you’re my favorite blog about books. Thanks in advance :D

I wish I can be like you because you certainly write well. I also hope to become one. Anyway, keep up the good work and you are freakin AWESOME (and you’re pretty too)! have a good day ^^

Hey, thank you! :’) I don’t really consider myself a good writer (I’ve encountered lots of awesome budding authors my age, and my writing skill is nowhere near the caliber of theirs). I need to learn more. You can be a good writer yourself, just keep practicing!

Thanks again (pretty? That’s a first!) and have a good day, too, sweets!

I…buy from those bookstores you mentioned. :| But you can special order if you can’t find the books you’re looking for. Fullybooked’s email is lucy@fullybookedonline.com (they transfer your order to their branch nearest you, no charge!), Powerbooks’ is ibid@powerbooks.com.ph, and NBS’ is bookfinder@nationalbookstore.com.ph. Sorry for the late response! I will try it, thanks for the rec. I have one friend who is really addicted to urban fantasy and she’s always recommending VA to me when she gets the chance. xD I’ll just finish half of my to-read pile and then try the first book from that series. :)

reelquotes said: Hi Airiz, first off I just wanna say that I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. I came here just now to take a look at your opinion about American Gods and was surprised that there is no review of it. Being a Gaimaniac yourself, I highly doubt that you haven’t read the book. Is there any particular reason you didn’t review the book yet? Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hello, reelquotes! Thank you very much, I’m glad you like my posts. I’m really sorry if you didn’t find any American Gods review here. I read AG years before I started this blog, and I seldom write reviews of books I finished pre-Tumblr unless I reread them. I’ll find some time to reacquaint myself with it (I’ll probably get my hands on AG: The 10th Anniversary Edition) and then post my review, I promise. :) That would be soon, because I intend to reread it before the HBO adaptation airs.

takeit0nthe0therside asked: what’s the book you’re holding in your dp?

The Girl Who Was on Fire: Your Favorite Authors on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Trilogy, edited by Leah Wilson. Basically a collection of essays about the Hunger Games. :)

musambi said: ”Book collecting is an obsession, an occupation, a disease, an addiction, a fascination, an absurdity, a fate. It is not a hobby. Those who do it must do it. Those who do not do it, think of it as a cousin of stamp collecting, a sister of the trophy cabinet, bastard of a sound bank account and a weak mind.” ― Jeanette Winterson. I totally relate to your book hoarding obsession!

This is so true, musambi! And we are not alone!

cocoaandbutter said:Airiz! it’s zee. :) I made a new blog and totally deleted that old one. :P just thought you should know.

TUMBLR ASK:

happythoughtsplusfairydust asked you: Do you think the movie will do justice to Katniss’ clothes as designed by Cinna? It’s one of the things I anticipate in the film.

I think it will! The ones I’m most excited to see are the flaming ones (my most favorite outfit is in Catching Fire, though, the wedding gown that burns and morphs into a mockingjay dress). Obviously they don’t show too much of the outfits in the trailer—you saw the District 12 chariot shot? They practically only showed Kat’s face and neck lol. They’re aware the fans are anxious to see the clothes.

Anyway, I think the creators know they have to put lots of effort in the wardrobe department, not only because the clothes are pretty but also because they meant more than just something to wear. Cinna’s creed is basically “fashion is weapon.” :D

igniteinhalerepeat asked you: Have you written anything that’s been published? (not that it matters)

Well, my book reviews/literary essays were published in a local newspaper and in a small magazine. My short stories only got to be published in our university organ and folio, so I think they don’t really count…as well as the articles I wrote for a newspaper when I was still an intern, haha. :D

THOUGHTS ON “ONE DAY” BY DAVID NICHOLLS:

citymunkie said: It starts out good but about mid-way through it gets repetitive. Personally I felt like Nicholls ran out of steam but needed to slap an ending together. Not the worst book, just a bit of a disappointing read.

likemyownlittleworld said: Hey! First, I’d like to say, that I absolutely love your blog. It’s so beautiful, really. And second… I think I need your help. I’m doing a paper on Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods” & since I noticed you love his work I thought you might have read it. I have to write about what Gaiman criticizes about America & I have to admit that the only point I can think of is that technology like cell phones, internet and everything became too important to us. What do you think? Thank you so much in advance!

Hi! Thank you. It’s been a while since I read the book, so I may be a little rusty. I think you’re on the right track, even though in my opinion Gaiman’s doing no blunt criticisms about America. It’s just a part of the intriguing premise he wove for the novel, that when people’s beliefs about the old [mythological] gods wane, the said gods cease to exist. Americans have found other gods to worship—the modern technology. The new “American Gods” are “clinging to growing knots of belief: gods of credit card and freeway, of Internet and telephone, of radio and hospital and television, gods of plastic and of beeper and of neon.” But that’s what happens when times roll forward, eh? It’s inevitable, and we have to admit, they really are important to us now. You know this is true not only for America—there are a lot of other countries out there that seemed to have forgotten they were once solidly adulating mythical gods and then embraced the developments brought about by the changing times. US citizens are not the only ones that are heavily reliant on/obsessed with modern technology. It just so happens that America is a melting pot of mythologies, and Gaiman seemed to find it interesting to nudge at the religious/philosophical beliefs of many people in the west.

huhsmile asked: Do you sometimes wish you could disappear into your books? Do you sometimes just wish to escape from reality? halfwayaroundthisworld said: Hey!! So I was wondering if you could help me out in choosing what to read next. I just finished Life of Pi by Yann Martel. So far, I want to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I’ve recently heard about the Hunger Games trilogy? Or just tell me what novel is by far your favourite? :)

Ooh, please read The Hunger Games trilogy, the books are completely awesome! They’re fast-paced and it’s easier to get through them than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (although that’s unfair comparison because they’re completely different). THG is one of my favorite trilogies of all time! With TGWTDT, it took me weeks, but it’s still a great read, if you’re into thriller and crime fiction. :)

wordsorcerer said: I’ve finished The God of Small Things yesterday and it was really sad and beautiful. You’ll probably like Roy’s post. It’s playful and creative and vivid. The characters were perfectly spun, very real. I can’t hate even one of them. hahaha. I’ll read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo when I get a copy. Hahaha. On my wish list are: The Life of Pi, The Book Thief, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, THGTrilogySet. How about you? What’s on your Christmas wish-list? :D

ah, because of that, The God of Small Things will definitely be included in my Christmas wish-list! Thanks for telling me. :) The others will be…The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Everything is Illuminated and Tree of Codes by Jonathan Safran Foer, all of Ellen Hopkins’ books, the rest of the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson and…the list is too long. XD But those that I mentioned are on the top of my list.

ocoear asked: Have you read We Need to Talk About Kevin because I am reading it now and I am just wondering what your opinions are of it.

…no but I’ve heard about the movie (I have a friend who is an Ezra Miller superfangirl). I didn’t know it’s based on a book! o_O Maybe I should check it out.

thisasian asked: Do you like reading more than one book at once? I’ve always read one book at a time, and I’ve never understood how people do it. O___O More like, how they can stay hooked on one book, whilst being hooked on another? Do you prefer it, or what? I’m just being a curious bunny, sorry. :’)

It’s okay! I used to read multiple books at once, kind of like watching TV series—one episode of Dexter, next one episode of Game of Thrones, etc. I don’t know about the others, but before my routine is like this: 3 chapters for one book, 3 chapters for the other book, and so and so forth (my maximum is three books at a time). I tried it with novels because it works with textbooks. Haha! But I guess reading one book at a time is more enjoyable, and that’s what I’m doing now.  :)
