You know there’s still lots of awesome left in the world if people give you awards for being the nerdtastic bookworm that you are. I received P10,000.00 (cash and GCs) & a cellphone from National Book Store, The Philippine Star, and Globe telecom for my essay-review for Paolo Giodano’s book, The Solitude of Prime Numbers! :)
More of the My Favorite Book (Year 11) awards here.
Sorry for the off-topic-ness of this post, but I really can’t help it. Fritzie—a stray cat that now resides in a nest of newspapers and rugs under the stairs of our house—just gave birth to three cute kitties! :) My favorite is the one in the first picture. She always climbs on top of her mama, and I almost wanted to help her because her tiny limbs are all stick-thin and shaky. The only thing that deterred me from doing that is Fritzie arching her back and throwing me warning glares every time I’m reaching out to them. Anyway, the kitten managed to make it to the top without any help. I love the noses of the babies—they’re shaped like tiny hearts, and they’re so red! :D
I THINK I NEED A NEW SHELF. Because our wee shelf in the living room cannot accommodate all my books anymore, I have to transfer some of them in my cubbyhole of a bedroom. There’s no space on the floors because of the new packages now carpeting it, so I have no choice but to haul them all up to the upper bunk, where I sleep. These are only a few, and I chose those that I may want to reread before hitting the sack.
Rearranging them reminded me of the books I lent out. Hunger Games, Coraline, Paper Towns, Leviathan, a bunch of Murakami books (ehem-mindinmaterial-ehem), and other Robin Hobb books. Oh well. At least I know these babies are in good hands. :)
first page of my journal. :P
I’m almost done with Elizabeth Kostova’s The Swan Thieves—less than a hundred pages to go! I really plan to finish it tonight so I could buy another Murakami book tomorrow (or perhaps Looking for Alaska, if ever Fullybooked in SM North EDSA would have a copy of it).
Also, I did manage to get a copy of Chuck Palahniuk’s Pygmy today, after I submitted my application form for the editorial exam. I think it’s not a good pick for a Palahniuk starter. I mean, not that I’m saying it wouldn’t be a good read, but the prose is written in—as Wikipedia put it—Engrish. It’s because it’s told from the point of view of an exchange student from an unnamed Communist country. It would be hard to figure out what Palahniuk’s usual style is, and that’s what I wanted to know in the first place. I would still try it though, since I love satires.
